"O God, Our Help in Ages Past"

The first post I wrote on this blog was a hymn, so I wanted to close the current year of 2005 with another hymn. The first and last verses of this hymn by the Englishman, Isaac Watts, speak of time past and time to come. What fitting thoughts as we reflect on the year just completed, and enter into a new year full of the unknown, and full of promise. You can listen to the hymn and read about Isaac Watts.

"O God, Our Help in Ages Past"

O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.

Under the shadow of Thy throne
Still may we dwell secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defense is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.

Time, like an ever rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly, forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.

O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guide while life shall last,
And our eternal home.
